Canadian Experience Class

Canadian Experience Class)

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) is one of the three immigration programs operated through Canada’s Express Entry system. As with all programs contained within Express Entry, CEC uses the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) to rank interested candidates against one another, only inviting the most competitive candidates to apply for Canadian permanent residence.

Every year, more than half of all immigrants to Canada are skilled workers welcomed through economic programs, including the Canadian Experience Class program. For qualified candidates the CEC program can be a fast option for obtaining Canadian permanent residence, and with it, the right to live and work in Canada permanently.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants may remain in Canada throughout the application process. However, individuals no longer in Canada can still be eligible for the program, provided that they submit their application within three years of leaving their job in Canada. The Canadian Experience Class requirements are based on a pass or fail model. If the minimum requirements are met, the applicant is eligible to enter the Express Entry pool.

An important thing to note is that self-employment work experience and work experience gained while you were a full-time student does not satisfy the requirements of this program.

What is the Eligibility for Express Entry?

Possess at least one year of continuous, full-time (or an equivalent in part-time) skilled work experience in occupations classified under National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, or B, or TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3. This experience should reflect your ability to contribute meaningfully to Canada's economy.

Demonstrate fluency in English or French through designated language tests (IELTS or CELPIP for English, TEF or TCF for French) achieving scores that meet or exceed the minimum requirements. Language proficiency is pivotal in ensuring your successful integration into Canada's vibrant society and workforce.

Hold a post-secondary credential (degree, diploma, or certificate) of at least one year from a recognized institution. If your education was obtained outside Canada, you should have an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report to prove its equivalency to Canadian standards.

Show that you have sufficient financial resources to support yourself and any family members upon arrival in Canada, unless you are currently working in Canada or have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer.

Be admissible to Canada, fulfilling all health and security requirements as defined by the Canadian government, ensuring you and your family's smooth transition to a new life in Canada.

How much does Express Entry cost?

The cost of immigrating to Canada through Express Entry is about $2,300 CAD for a single applicant, or about $4,500 CAD for a couple. The breakdown of costs includes,

1. Language tests: Average cost – $300

2. Educational Credential Assessment (ECA): Average cost – $200

3. Biometrics: $85/person

4. Government fees: $1,525/adult & $260/child

5. Medical examination fees: average cost – $450/adult & $250/child

6. Police clearance certificates: Average cost – $100/country

7. No government fees are required to submit your initial Express Entry profile. The fees are only requested when you are invited to apply for Canadian permanent residence. In addition to the government processing fees, you may also need to pay provincial immigration fees if you apply through a PNP.

8. You should also be aware that unless you are applying under the Canadian Experience Class program or have a valid arranged employment offer, you will need to demonstrate you have sufficient funds to support your resettlement in Canada. These settlement funds are not fees paid to the government but you must have access to them to be approved for a permanent residence visa. The amounts per family size are mentioned in the table below:

How do I find my NOC code?

You can find your NOC code by searching the NOC matrix for your job title or industry. It is important to make sure the majority of the main duties listed on the NOC you choose match your job description.
